Hi Barbara - I've just found this site and your reference to Henry and Elizabeth Holman. They were my great great grandparents also, which means we are related slightly closer than many other Funnells. It would be interesting, perhaps, to swap notes on how we descend. I'm the same guy that Andy referes to above - at the time I was in Balcombe, now Storrington. MY email is jfunn@aol.com. Hope to hear from you. Regards, Jeff Funnell

Hello John,

What a wonderful website! I've recently started researching the Funnell side of my family - Henry Funnell and Elizabeth Holman are my paternal great great grandparents. I have little or no information or photographs of them so to find this was such good news.I've researched mums side of the family and have now started on dads and it's always good to meet new members of the family - however distant. Best wishes Barbara.

My father always told me that we originated in Peasmarsh, Sussex. However, according to the 1901 Census, my grandfather, Edwin Isaac Funnell was born in Iden in 1963. At some stage he and his brother, name unknown, worked their passage to the USA where grandfather had a farm and his brother started a taxi firm. Lcations not known. Grandfather returned to UK and married Louisa (possibly Taylor borne Guildford) They worked passage to Canada, place unknown, where they had farm and cheese factory. Returned to UK and farmed Dover and Alkham, Kent. It is a pity that when we are young we do not realise that we should seek information from grandparents before they die.

I’m sorry, I don’t normally do this sort of thing. I run several sites (all the others are in French) and not one of them has any publicity or links other than for my own services. However, this was just so much fun I couldn’t resist!
They do deliver the goods and you do get an insight into family name origins.
Please use my link, go to the site and reference it in your favorites (Ctrl + D). Use it if ever you’re looking for original Christmas or birthday presents for family history enthusiasts. It works for any name, not just ours. Funnell.org will receive a small commission which will contribute to research and website fees. Thanks.
