The Funnells of Strawberry Hill
Apr 14th, 2009 by Andy Funnell
This is the story of four generations of Funnells and their contribution to the building of the “American way of life”.
Henry Funnell and his wife, Mary Sargent, left Chiddingly against the wishes of their family and settled in Huntington on Long Island, New York where daily chores continued throughout the Civil War, World War I and the Great Depression. Implicated in the values of education, religion and work as well as in entertainment through music, sports and debating groups, the Funnells contributed largely to the development of the community.
Originally written by Bertha Hewett Funnell in 1978, this version has been slightly rewritten to leave out living relatives and include a little additional information on some of the characters.
