I too was born in New Zealand and my great, great grand parents were Charles and Mary Funnell (nee Bashford). As far as I am aware, this side of the Funnell family lived in Seven Oaks, Kent, England, before getting assisted passage to New Zealand c1872/73. I hope this of some help.
