Hello Andy

I'm so glad I found your web site. I have discovered I have a relationship with the Funnell family through George Collett Funnell b. 1857, Brighton Sussex England who married Elizabeth Jane Nash b. 1858 Shere, Surrey, England. Their children were Dorothy Grace, Bertha Lillian, Margarie Louise, and George Henry Thomas. After George Collett Funnell died in 1893 his wife Elizabeth married my great grandfather Thomas Dilloway who had previously been married to Elizabeth's sister Ann Nash and had children including my grandfather Reginald John Dilloway. The Funnell children were then brought up by Thomas and Elizabeth and combined with Thomas's children from his first marriage to form a large family. At times the Funnell children sometimes used the surname Dilloway though when they married they married under the Funnell name so I doubt they were officially adopted by Thomas Dilloway. The Funnell children Married: Dorothy Grace Funnell married Robert William Piggott, Bertha lillian Funnell married Jack Elliot, Margarie Louise married Archibald Colin Hart, George Henry Thomas Funnell married Emily Matilda Emsely. They all seemed to reside around Surrey and Sussex, England.

Kind regards
Reg Dilloway

Hello,

my name is Rachael Funnell, my father is Anthony Ronald Funnell, his father was Ronald Raymond Funnell, and his father was George Henry Funnell (wife Caroline Funnell, both resided at 61 Brighton Road, Shoreham-by-sea). At this point the trail gets hard to follow and is complicated by the rumour that George Henry Funnell's father changed his name from Brown to Funnell after committing a murder. I've been trying research this and I just thought I'd leave the story on here as it's quite interesting. If anyone knows any details I would be very interested to hear. Thanks

I'm also on Facebook with my full name or /teachenkrat. I have somewhere my maiden aunt Bertha Funnell's book "The Funnells of Strawberry Hill" about the Huntington, New York family she grew up in (b. 1900) with my father Martin ('04). His oldest sister was married to Charles Phipard (once Bertha's beau!) and had two children Jean P. Rutherford now residing in Chesapeake, Virginia and Jonathan B. Phipard, deceased - survived by widow Bonnie and two sons in Purcellville, VA. Another sister Elizabeth was also unmarried.
I have a brother Richard Whittingham Funnell in Cardigan, Wales, and a sister Eleanor F. Andrews in Noank, CT. Our sister Ann Sargent F. married S.C. Graves Jr. of Brookline, MA, and is deceased, leaving daughter Monica Von Huene of Brookline and sons Martin F. Graves of Brooklyn, NY and Sidney Chase Grave III of Carbondale, CO.

Hi, just renewing my acquaintance with 'Funnells Wood'. I'm a descendant of Emily Funnell b.7/11/1862. I think she was from Brighton but lived in Portsmouth, she was 92 when she died. I have only just sent off for her Birth cert. I have a small card describing Edward Funnells 'Smallest Lever watch in the World', and also a Birthday book, which was given to Emily in 1884, both of these handed down to me, I will try to be a more regular visitor to this site, It's fascinating.

Hi people,
I am trying to fill in gaps of info on my family tree. We have some pictures and we have a picture of Jim Funnell who was in the RAF. Apparently he was killed in a plane crash in '46 or '47, but other than his entry in the geneology section of this site and on the family tree Mum's cousin gave me, I can't find any record of him at all! His father was Herbert Funnell born 1891 Southborough. Elder brother Frank. One of the photos has him in a cockpit and my husband says it looks like it was a bomber rather than a fighter.
Any help on this would be appreciated,
Jenny
